Author Eric S. Petersen will deliver the Honors College Excellence Lecture for the spring semester. Petersen, an expert on Thomas Jefferson, will discuss his book Light and Liberty: Reflections on the Pursuit of Happiness. The author will be speaking at the Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) on Wednesday, March 11 in Academic 2 (ACII) 115 at 7:00 p.m. The lecture at University Park Campus will take place in the Frost Art Museum at 3:30 p.m. on the following day, Thursday, March 12. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at both events. The author will be signing books at the conclusion of the lecture. A reception will immediately follow each event.
Light and Liberty is a collection of 34 pieces, mostly letters, edited by Petersen. The book serves as a rich compendium of Jefferson's philosophical and political thought. The book has been well received since its 2004 release and is part of the Modern Library Classic series.
Petersen is a managing partner at the New York law firm of Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP. Educated at Brown University and the University of Chicago Law School, he has studied Jefferson’s life and works since 1993. He lives in Connecticut.
